Leigh, what a good reader Edie is becoming!! I know you are having a lot of fun and how great it is that she is getting one-on-one teaching! One thing that we have done a little differently in education when teaching sight words, is the pronunciation of “the”. For as long as I can remember, I have taught kiddos to say it with a long “e” sound at the end. Now, for about the past 7 years, we are teaching it with a short “u” sound at the end. The reason we changed our instruction is because in our everyday speech, we never say “the” with a long “e” sound. It has made a huge difference in the students’ fluency. I wish you the best of luck and it sounds like she will be a phenomenal reader. She is picking it up quickly. : )
