Monday we took our annual trek up to Hayden, Alabama to pick out a pumpkin at the Pumpkin Patch.  I’m not as crazy about this tradition as Edie.  I find the place to be overrun with school kids on field trips, running around like maniacs.  However, this doesn’t bother Edie in the least, and in fact, sometimes it even encourages her to run around a little crazy herself.  For the second year in a row, she had her BFF, Reagan, with her for the event.

When we arrived, we surveyed the place, and Joy, Reagan’s mother, and I decided the jumpy jumps looked the least crazy crowded.  The girls didn’t hesitate getting their socks and shoes off and were jumping and giggling within minutes of our arrival.   It didn’t take long though before the area became overrun with children, and we decided that now might be a good time for picnic.

We chose our table wisely…away from everyone else.  The only problem with that was that the yellow-jacket to people ratio was like 20:1.  So after Joy had to slap  Reagan’s cheek to shoo a bee and me screaming that she was about to sit on another, we decided to take our picnic elsewhere.   We moved down in the midst of the school children where there were a lot of other lunches for the bees to feast on besides ours.

All in all, it was a good day, and we did pick out a pumpkin.  Now we’ve just got to find some time to carve it this week between Fall Festivals and trick or treating.  Is it just me or has Halloween become an “all week” event?
